Helen M. Shively, age 91, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Wednesday, June 15, 2011 at The Toledo Hospital after a brief illness. She was born July 3, 1919 to Henry and Elizabeth (Hasalem) Linger in Ottoville, Ohio. Helen married George R. Shively on March 23, 1946 at St. Paul's United Methodist Church and he preceded her in death in January 22, 2010. She worked at the Toledo Club, Edison Restaurant and most recently Hillcrest Hotel for 32 years. Some of Helen's favorite past-times were swing dancing at The Knights of Columbus, playing volleyball and bicycle riding. In her spare time she enjoyed baking delicious desserts for her family.
Left to cherish her memory is her son, Larry Hughes and George Robert (Elizabeth) Shively; grandchildren, Rick, Tina, Kevin, Rob (Kim), Cori and Sybil; great-grandchildren, Larry, Samantha, Cody, Kayla, David John and Skylar Georgeanne; 4 sisters-in-law, 2 brothers-in-law and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 64 years, George; daughter-in-law, Darlene; granddaughter, Debbie; grandson, Eric Shively; brothers, Melitus and Arthur; sisters, Margaret, Leona, Julia and Agnes.
The family will receive guests Monday from 10:00 a.m. – Noon, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300). Funeral Services will begin in the funeral home Monday at Noon. Entombment will follow in Toledo Memorial Park.
Memorial Contributions may be made to Society for the Blind and Ohio Soldiers and Sailors Home in Sandusky.
