"Let not your heart be troubled; believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father's house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself: that where I am, there ye may be also."
John 14: 1-3
Mrs. Helen Elizabeth Henry was born to the lineage of Ned Favors, Sr. and Annie Margie Odum Favors. Her parents, who preceded her in death, were pioneer citizens of Milledgeville, Georgia. Her younger years were spent in the community of her birth where she attended the Eddie High School and attended Flagg Chapel Baptist Church.
Helen had a passion for cooking as a young child and this passion lasted through her lifetime. Helen Elizabeth Favors and Ellis Green were joined in holy matrimony on June 15, 1940. Helen and Ellis made their home in Milledgeville, Georgia, until Ellis enlisted in the United States Army during World War II in 1941.
Helen traveled from Army base to Army base with Ellis as he completed his tours. She and Ellis made their home in Toledo, Ohio, when his enlistment ended.
Realizing that one day her earthly tabernacle would surely resolve, Mrs. Green made ready for her exodus by confessing Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior uniting herself to the flock of followers at Mount Zion Baptist Church, 701 Vance Street, Toledo, Ohio. Her membership to the church was faithful and ardent. She served as cook at the church for different ministries and activities until her health declined.
Helen worked at well-known restaurants during her working years as head cook. She enjoyed entertaining family and friends at her home. She also did private catering. She was an expert at setting dining tables and decorating the area for formal parties as well as cultural events for her international clients.
Helen met and married Charles Henry on July 10, 1961. Their union was blessed and their vows were kept until death-he-did-part on August 26, 1976. She was a dedicated wife. Her happiest time was caring for her home and husband and also planning and preparing meals.
She leaves a legacy of love to be cherished by a sister, Mrs. Dora Clemons-Collier; three devoted nieces, Mrs. Janice C. Ward and husband, Kenneth Alan Ward, Mrs. Sandra D. Scott and husband, Eugene Scott, Jr., Annie Griffen and husband, Ronnie Griffen; a devoted nephew, Mr. Larry Stephens and wife, Mary Stephens; several nieces and nephews and a host of cousins and friends all of Milledgeville, Georgia. Also, devoted friends, Mrs. Josephine Cleve, Mrs. Ruth Hall, Mrs. Mary Brown, Mrs. Vivian Lewis and Mrs. Vivian Applewhite, all of Toledo, Ohio.
