Helen M. Corbin

August 2, 1936 — April 1, 2023

Helen Maxine Corbin, 86, passed away April 1, 2023 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio. She was surrounded by her family and went peacefully to be with our Heavenly Father.

Helen was born in Jacksonville, Illinois on August 2, 1936 to James Delmar Sr and Alberta Virginia Ward. She was the eldest of four children. Helen attended Jacksonville High School graduating in 1953. She worked as a nanny for a local family and also volunteered at a school for the deaf.

Helen met the love of her life, Gary Ray Corbin after he returned from serving in the United States Marine Corps. They were married in Jacksonville on July 10, 1955. Gary and his young bride moved into their first home in Illinois where they started their family. In 1958, they moved to Ohio where their family continued to grow and they raised their two sons and two daughters. Gary and Helen were blessed with 67 years of marriage and their union was a beautiful example of Christian love.

Helen was a gentle, kind and selfless woman that found true happiness in loving and serving her family. Her favorite times were family gatherings and celebrations. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren and enjoyed many memorable vacations and girls' trips. Helen was fond of reading books and enjoyed playing sudoku and 'Words with Friends' (she was a wiz!). Helen also enjoyed watching golf tournaments and game shows together with Gary. She was especially fond of dogs and loved to spoil her little boy Toby with cookies and treats. Helen enjoyed collecting Beanie Babies and her vast collection has been donated to children's hospitals in Ohio and Arizona. When it came to cooking, she enjoyed making meals for her family and everyone would agree her pot roast dinner was the best they ever had!

Helen was employed by Sears for over 20 years working in their various offices in Ohio and Michigan. She also worked in the fabric department at Walmart for 22 years in their Monroe, Michigan and Surprise, Arizona stores. Helen had a knack for crafts and loved talking with her customers about their projects and helping them choose their fabrics, notions and supplies.

In 1997, Gary and Helen retired and moved to Arizona where they enjoyed life in The Grand Canyon state and made many wonderful memories. They were active members of the Church of Christ in Sun City. In 2019, Gary and Helen moved back to Ohio to be close to family.

Helen passed away after bravely battling chronic kidney disease. While she was a woman of gentle spirit, she showed incredible strength, hope and grit and was an inspiration to all who knew and loved her.

Helen will be deeply missed by her husband Gary; daughters Dianne (Jim) Cameron and Kimberly (Perry) Vogelsang; grandchildren Brandon (Jennifer) Corbin, Matthew Bires, Joseph (Jennell) Bires, Kirsten (Michael) Rustenbach and Jennifer (Lance) Annen; great-grandchildren Trevor Bires, Alexander and Oliver Corbin, Corbin Rustenbach, Brady, Reed and Drew Annen, Landon and Oliver Frye along with two more coming in October; brothers and sisters-in law Jerry (Judy), Robert (Sandi), Joyce and Norma Corbin and Joyce and LeAnn Ward; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. She will also be dearly missed by her beloved poodle Toby.

Helen was preceded in death by her sons Gary and Michael Corbin; brothers James Jr and Robert Ward, sister Verna Jean Ward and her parents James Sr and Alberta Ward.

The family extends a special thank you to the staff at Fresenius Kidney Care Arrowhead Maumee and to the special people at Hospice of Northwest Ohio for their friendship and for the tender loving care they provided.

Helen will take her final rest next to her sons in a private ceremony at Roth Memorial Cemetery, Monclova, Ohio. Visitation, followed by a Memorial Service, will be held on Saturday April 29, 2023 at 2:00pm at Newcomer - SW Chapel 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd., Toledo, Ohio 43614.
