Hazel E. Mahaney, age 83, of Toledo, passed away Tuesday, April 3, 2007, in St. Vincent Medical Center. She was born February 7, 1924 to Lee and Alice (Spinks) Boone in Roncerverte, West Virginia. Hazel was a beautician and managed the former Troute's Beauty Salon for almost 20 years. During the war she was a spot welder in Maryland, working on war ships for 3 years. Hazel was a shirt-tail relation to Daniel Boone and she enjoyed sharing the history of her family with everyone. While raising her family, Hazel was very involved with Stickney School and was a past president of the Parent-Teacher Association. In her free time she sang in a quartet with her church group. Most importantly, Hazel cherished the time she spent with family and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Albert Boone. Hazel is survived by her loving husband with whom she just celebrated 58 years of marriage, James L. Mahaney, Sr.; sons, James (Ann) Mahaney, Jr.; Steve (Cynthia) Mahaney of Columbus and Don (Becky) Boone; grandchildren, Karey (Eric) Borden; Patrick Mahaney; Sarah Boone; Jonathan Boone and Jimmy Mahaney; great grandchildren, Alexandria; Hunter and Carter Borden; siblings, Lee (Margart) Boone; Joyce (Sonny) Poland and Ronny (Marsha) Boone all of Virginia; brother-in-law, Grover Mahaney and his wife Gerry, who was Hazel's angel in her final days and greatly appreciated by her family. She will also be missed by her dear friend Jewel Adams and many nieces, nephews and extended family members.
The family will receive guests Monday from 2-8:00 p.m. in the Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300). Funeral Services will be Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Restlawn Memorial Park.
