Harry R. Rice, Sr. age 78 of the Point/Shoreland Community died Tuesday, July 5th, 2005 in Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Perrysburg. He was born January 15th, 1927 to Harry and Violet (Maxwell) Rice in Detroit, Michigan. Harry worked in the proof department of the Ohio Citizens Bank, now known as National City, for 31 years, retiring in 1985 as the department manager. On December 1, 1951, he married Carole Lamprecht, and together they raised their three children. After retiring, Harry worked part-time at the Backstop, a sports card shop in Lambertville and eventually purchased the shop, where he continued to work until he closed the business in 1997. Harry then worked part-time at the Bullpen in West Toledo. While living in West Toledo, Harry was very active at Trilby United Methodist Church, singing in the choir, working church dinners and helping wherever needed. Since moving to Shoreland, he was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church, singing in the choir for a short time. He made a great many friends through his church families and he will be missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 53 years, Carole J. (Lamprecht) Rice; son, Harry (Juli) Rice, Jr.; daughters, Cheryl (Tom) Yunker and Cindy (Mike) Ventresca; grandchildren, Tiffany and Marisa Rice (Andy Cline); Jamie (Paulie) Gartee; Tommy Yunker; Roger and Sadie Porter; great grandchildren, Christian; Anthony and Mackenzie Gartee and great granddaughter on the way, Hana Cline and brother, Richard (Diane) Rice of California.
The family will receive guests Friday from 11:00-1:00 p.m. in the Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419)473-0300. Funeral Services will begin Friday at 1:00 p.m. Officiating will be Pastor David Rushton.
It was Harry's hope that rather than sending flowers, his friends and family would make contributions in his memory to the Building Fund at Messiah Lutheran Church, 4703 N. Summit St. Toledo, Ohio 43611
