Harry M. Sheroian, age 93, of West Toledo, passed away peacefully just three weeks short of his 94th birthday, on Wednesday, November 18, 2015 at Parkcliffe Communities. He was born to Peter and Sarah Sheroian on December 7, 1921. Harry attended Lagrange Grade School and he graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1939, where he enjoyed participating in the school plays and musicals. After graduation he worked at Tiedtke's and at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, OH until being called up for military service in February 1943. In World War II he served in the Army Air Corp with the 15th Air Force 348 Bomb Squadron in Foggia, Italy. Harry was a radio operator, aerial gunner on a B-17 Flying Fortress. He completed 25 combat missions before his plane was disabled on a combat mission and the crew had to bail out over Northern Italy. Harry was missing in action for a year fighting with the Italian Underground. He was classified an evadee, avoiding being captured by the Germans. After service in World War II, he married Margaret Sohikian, his childhood sweetheart. Harry started work at Libby-Owens Ford as a glass cutter for 3 years. He then went to work with the U.S. Postal Service for 36 years retiring as a Supervisor in 1983. In 1938 Harry was a founding member of the Kappa Chi Fraternity and he was also a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Harry is survived by his loving wife of almost 70 years, Margaret; children, Gregory (Rose) Sheroian, Kathy Resener and Robert (Elizabeth) Sheroian; granddaughters, Jennifer (Jerry) Roberts, Lisa (Carlos) Concepcion, Kristi Resener and Ashley (Chris) LaVigne; 3 great-grandchildren; a very special sister-in-law, Florence Sheroian; and many nieces, nephews and dear friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Sanislo and brother, John Sheroian
The family will receive guests on Saturday from 10 – 11:30 a.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd., Toledo (419-473-0300). A Prayer Service will begin at 11:30 a.m. in the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 p.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church, 4100 Harvest Lane, Toledo. Interment will follow in Toledo Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make memorial contributions are asked to consider the Alzheimer's Association.
