Harry L. Lingo, Jr.

Harry L. Lingo, Jr., 84, of Toledo, Ohio passed away peacefully on November 18, 2009 at Windhaven Elder Care, Temperance, Michigan.

Harry was born on July 13, 1925 to Mildred and Harry L. Lingo, Sr. in Sylvania, Ohio. Harry attended Burnham High School, leaving before graduation to enlist in the Navy and defend our country during WWII. He was most proud of his service and always enjoyed meeting other Navy veterans and sharing stories. Perhaps the most important event of his last several years was receiving his high school diploma at a full fledged ceremony orchestrated by his daughter Lorrie, and made possible by the Superintendent of Sylvania Schools, the Sylvania Board of Education members, and Nancy Crandell, Sylvania Schools Communication Director, all of whom took their time on a Sunday afternoon to make the occasion very special for Harry and the many family members, friends, and Windhaven staff members and owners, Carl and Dianne, who witnessed, and assisted with the event.

Harry was a supervisor at DuPont for many years, and also an owner of Wesson Garage Builders. He was a hard worker who always provided well for his family, and never complained about the long work days he put in. Despite all the time devoted to work, Harry found a great deal of time to play, and play he did! Over the years, in addition to buying and selling countless cars (really), he owned a plane (1), boats (2), and several RV's (5), all of which brought him and his family both joy and excitement. The family RV trips were especially fun for all involved, particularly since Harry did all the driving while everyone else played cards, napped, or told him where to stop, and occasionally, where to go. Fortunately, he was always a good sport.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 62 years, Anne, who he met while working at DuPont, daughters, Lorrie Giannetti (Joe) of Sylvania, Nancy Smith of Hawaii, Amy Lingo of Toledo and son Tom Lingo (Elizabeth) of Sylvania; grandchildren Joseph, Jeffrey (Ashlee), Chris, Anne, and newly arrived Jesse, a joy to all. In addition, Harry is survived by his caring and considerate siblings, brother, Richard Lingo (Betty) and sister, Peggy Busch (Norm), Oscar Miehls, Harry's special and faithful brother-in-law, and many nieces and nephews also survive. Harry was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Helen, Betty, and Carolyn, and brother, Ed.

The family will receive guests to share special memories, Friday from 3-9:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300).

The family would like to offer heartfelt thanks to Windhaven Elder Care for their assistance over the last few years, and Hospice of Northwest Ohio who were instrumental in ensuring that Harry's needs were always met, and that he was comfortable until the end.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that any donations be sent to Hospice of Northwest Ohio, 800 South Detroit Avenue, Toledo, Ohio 43609.
