Harold W. Gillespie, age 87, a lifelong resident of Toledo, passed away Wednesday, December 14th, 2011 at Flower Hospital. He was born May 14th, 1924 to Wallace and Florence (Mortemore) Gillespie in Toledo. Harold was a WWII U.S. Army Veteran serving proudly in the 87th Division. He was a 32 Degree Mason and recently received his 65-Year Membership pin. Harold was employed with the DeVilbiss Company, retiring after 43 years. He was a talented craftsman and loved working with wood. Harold enjoyed spending time outdoors, whether it was with his family and friends at Wampler's Lake in Michigan, boating and fishing or just working in his own backyard. He had a talent for baking and was known for his "peanut brittle" and "lemon meringue pies". Harold will also be remembered by his family and friends for his warm smile and the ability to make them laugh.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, June G. Gillespie. Harold is survived by his loving wife of 21 years, Mary C. (Zunk) Gillespie; sons, David (Shirley), Gary (Debra) and Richard (Lori) Gillespie; stepdaughters, Ruth Ann Grodi, JoAnn M. Riffe and Mary Ann Grodi; grandchildren, Jillian Gillespie, Lisa Gillespie, Amanda Gillespie, Michael Gillespie, Meghan Gillespie, Josh Patterson, Justin Gillespie, Jeremy Riffe, David Riffe and Paul Joseph Grodi; great grandchildren, Preston McClellan, Alexander McLane, Gavin Werner, Connor Howell, Audree Thieman, Addilyn Thieman, Kyle Wagner, Luke Wagner, Jaiden K. Gillespie, Jace K. Gillespie, Keagan Patterson, Josef Riffe, Kaylee Riffe and Michael Riffe; close friends and neighbors, Michael Dyer and Angie Gilmore and special cousins, The Mortemore Family.

The family will receive guests Sunday from 2-8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300). Funeral Services will begin Monday at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Toledo Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers Memorial Contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
