Harold R. Varnes, age 96, passed away May 22, 2024 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio Toledo. Harold was born June 16, 1927, in Toledo to Lester and Helen (DeAtley) Varnes.
He worked two jobs for many years. He moved furniture during the day and worked third shift for B&O Railroad where he was a brakeman and conductor. He retired from the railroad after 32 years. Harold was a Navy veteran and a huge fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes and the Cleveland Guardians. He was so loved and will be missed every day.
In addition to his parents, Harold was also preceded in death by his loving wife of 54 years, Patricia Varnes, who passed peacefully on January 28, 2004. He was the last of his siblings - Barb Cupp, Jack Varnes, Leslie Gambrel, and David Varnes.
He is survived by his sons, Hal, Scott, and Craig (Janine) Varnes; his daughter, Leslie Marion; his grandchildren, Dennis, David, Christine, Keith, Sarah, Steven, and Brendan; his great-grandchildren, Aaron, Erina, Novah, Lexi, Max, Mason, and Olivia.
The family will receive guests Tuesday, May 28, 2024, from 2:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Southwest Chapel, 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd., Toledo, Ohio 43614. Funeral Services will begin Wednesday, May 29, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery in Oak Harbor.
