Harold Mumford, age 87, of Ottawa Lake, Michigan, died peacefully, Sunday, October 16, 2011 at Ebeid Hospice Residence after sustaining injuries from a fall. He was born to George and Ellen (Knoles) Mumford in Kirkby, England. Harold's family came to the United States in 1926. He graduated from DeVilbiss High School in 1942 and then graduated from the University of Toledo with a mechanical engineering degree. After college, he married Aileen Pat Patterson in 1948 and had three children. Harold worked and had many patents at Owens Illinois and retired after 40 years of service. He then most recently went to work at Glass Tech for 10 years. Harold was a Boy Scout and 4H leader for many years and was also a treasurer for the Whiteford Historical Association of Members in Ottawa Lake, MI. He enjoyed restoring antique cars, square dancing and traveling with his family. Harold was a very ambitious, loving, family man who will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Stephen Mumford and brother, Vic Mumford. Harold is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Aileen Pat Mumford; son, Mike Mumford; daughter, Kathryn (Ray) Spencer; grandchildren, Stephanie (Jeff), Michael, Bernadette (Matt), Sarah, Gretchen, Stephen, Harold and Sara; 9 great-grandchildren; sister, Marian (Dave); daughter-in-law, Kathleen; and other relatives and dear friends.
The family will receive guests on Wednesday from 3 – 8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300). Funeral Services will be private.
