Hans Georg Gustav Wandscher, age 77, of Perrysburg, Ohio passed away Monday, August 27, 2012 in Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Perrysburg. He was born April 22, 1935 in Oldenburg, Germany to Georg and Gretchen Wandscher. Hans was the last of three pioneers to come to the United States with their families in 1961. He retired from Toledo Die Cast Die and Mould in 2000. Hans was a member and past-president of the American Turners-Toledo and Baerstein Section. He was also a member of G.B.U. of Pittsburgh, the Teutonia Maennerchor, and G.A.F. Society since its founding. He was also a union steward and past-president of the American Flint Glass Workers Union. He was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. Hans had many interests, including model railroading, stamp collecting, gardening, camping, fishing with family and friends, especially fishing in Canada with his best friend, Leonard Harvey. He was a devoted husband, father, "Opa" and great-grandfather.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 54 years, Regina; children, Sabine Gacek Croley, Susanne (Horace) McCray and Dieter (Marischa) Wandscher; 10 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; sisters, Ingeborg Mueller and Liselotte Wandscher; brother, Herbert Wandscher; several nieces and nephews; and relatives in Germany; and his four-legged companion "Lutz". In addition to his parents, Hans was preceded in death by his sister, Helmtrud Byrne and step mother, Marie Wandscher.
The family will receive guests Thursday, August 30, 2012 from 2:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. in the Newcomer Funeral Home, 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd., Toledo (419-381-1900). Funeral services will be held Friday, August 31, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Ottawa Hills Memorial Park Cemetery.
