Hans Joachim Hoppe-Ersepke, age 77, of Toledo, passed away on Sunday evening, August 25, 2019. He was born in Bremen, Germany to Hans and Anneliese (Bollmann) Hoppe on August 19, 1942. After his father passed away, Hans came to America with his mother who married Hans Ersepke, Sr. He was a graduate of Scott High School and the University of Toledo and worked for many years for Owens-Illinois and Capital Tire.
Hans was actively involved with the German American Society, Teutonia Männerchor, Schwäbischer Unterstützungs Verein and Toledo Sister Cities. When he wasn't involved with the German American Society he could be found spending time with his children and grandchildren. Hans enjoyed woodworking and tinkering with his tools. He was proud of his German heritage and was a hardworking family man and will be dearly missed.
The light of his life were his grandchildren, they affectionately called him, "Opa." Opa could be found supporting and cheering on his precious grandchildren at their school and sporting events. Above everything, he loved spending time with his grandchildren, it was his favorite thing to do.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 53 years, Sue Ann (Mugg) Ersepke; Eric (Julie) Ersepke and Laura Ersepke; grandchildren, Hannah, Gavin, Sarah and Dylan; siblings, Alice Pleasnick and Heidi Drewes; many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends - too many to mention! In addition to his parents and step-father, he was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Bonnie and father-in-law, Robert Mugg.
The family will receive guests on Thursday, August 29, 2019 from 3-8:00 p.m. at Newcomer - Northwest Chapel, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300). His Funeral Service will begin in the funeral home on Friday, August 30, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow in Ottawa Hills Memorial Park.
