Gordon C. "Gordy" Kamper, age 83, of Toledo, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, December 17, 2013 at home. He was born on October 11, 1930 to Harry and Mabel (Rock) Kamper in Erie, Michigan. Gordy was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving his country proudly from 1951 – 1953. He worked for 40 years as a clerk for the Pere Marquette and Chesapeake and Ohio Railroads, now known as CSX. Gordy was an avid car enthusiast and loved to drive everywhere; he was always on the go. He also enjoyed mall walking for 22 years with friends. Gordy will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his infant son, Michael Shannon Kamper; sister, Doreen Dudek; brother-in-law, Stanley Dudek; and former spouses, Sylvia and Jeanne. Gordy is survived by his daughter, Mary Beth Kamper; sons, Mark (Dianna) Kamper and George (Bonnie Campbell) Gregoire; grandchildren, Nicole and Jonathan Kamper, Christopher and Crystal Woodward; great-grandchildren, Makayala, Braydon and Brooklynn; other family, Ona Kazmier and Robert Reichert; and many dear friends.
The family will receive guests on Friday from 2 – 8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd., Toledo (419-473-0300). Funeral Services will begin Saturday at 1:00 p.m. in the funeral home with visitation two hours prior. Interment will follow in Historic Woodlawn Cemetery.
