Gladys Juanita Patterson

December 27, 1957 — November 18, 2024

Toledo

Gladys Juanita Patterson was born on December 27, 1957 in Port Gibson, Mississippi, to the union of Henry (PoBoy) Patterson and Ruby (Storks) Patterson. She transitioned to her heavenly home on November 18, 2024 at Flower Hospital surrounded by her children, grandchildren, family, and friends.

Gladys attended Richardson Elementary and Addison Jr. High School in Port Gibson. After moving to Toledo, OH at the age of 12, she attended Jones Jr. High School, and Libbey High School, graduating from Jesup W. Scott High School, class of 1975. She also attended Stautzenberger College.

Gladys accepted Christ at an early age, joining Second Baptist Church in Port Gibson, MS., under the late Reverend Gilbert. After relocating to Toledo, she joined Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church. Before passing she enjoyed worshiping at Pilgrim Church under Pastor Ellis Young.

Gladys was employed with Promedica Toledo Hospital and UTMC. After more than 35 years of hard work and dedication, she retired in 2023.

Gladys enjoyed sports, being a die-hard Dallas Cowboys and Ohio State fan. She attended many of grandchildren’s sports events and activities, no matter what-rain, sleet, snow “Ma” was gonna be there.

Gladys was a loving and selfless individual. She built her life around God’s morals, values, and integrity. She gave her all to her family and friends, she would be the person to call on if you needed a voice of reason or just a place to stay to gather your thoughts. Being family oriented, she invested her entire life pouring love into her children and grandchildren. Effortlessly, she would be there to enjoy all their accomplishments, and to pick them up when they failed, she provided structure and guidance, instilling tools in them that would guide them through life, even in her absence.

One of Gladys’ hobbies, that she learned from her mother Ruby, at an early age, was knitting & crocheting. Before the birth of Keith Jr. and Nikki, she made personalized blankets for them. To this day, Keith still covers up every night under that blanket! Passionate about fashion, she made sure her kids had the best she could provide in every stage of her life - the way she could match colors and put outfits together was a sight to see.

Gladys was proceeded in death by both her parents; stepfather, Eli Keeps; sisters, Jessie Giles and Gloria Patterson; brothers, Joseph & Bobby Patterson; and grandson, JaQuan Patterson. She is survived by her loving children, Keith Chisholm Jr., and Tanika Davis; grandchildren, Davieontaye Lear, Kenya Chisholm, Ke’Juan & De’Shawn Patterson, Christopher Chisholm, Jae’lyn Patterson, Mariasha McCarver, Kaysie Chisholm, James LaBiche Jr., and Cam’ron LaBiche; sister, Jewel Patterson; brother, Cornelius (Sherry) Patterson both of Toledo, OH.; special niece, (Carol) Diane Ruffin of Cleveland, OH.; and goddaughter, Terron Rankin; best friend of over 50 years, Sharon Wright, Ernestine Smith, Candy Drayton, and Robert Barner; along with a host of other family and friends.
