Gladys Louise (Jennewein) Meznar

August 14, 1928 — January 27, 2023

Gladys Louise Meznar, age 94, was taken into the presence of her Lord on the morning of January 27, 2023. She was born to William and Helen Jennewein on August 14, 1928, in Cincinnati, Ohio. Her life was forever changed when she accepted Christ as her Savior as a teenager at Bethany Camp in Winona Lake, Indiana. Her newfound devotion to Christ inspired her to start a Bible Club at Hughes High School, where she was a student.

In 1947, Gladys enrolled at Bryan College in Dayton, Tennessee, to prepare for missionary service, and she graduated with a B.A. in English in 1951. At Bryan she met her future husband, Ronald Meznar. Together they prepared for missions at Grace Seminary.

In 1957, they arrived in São Paulo Brazil, serving with the Association of Baptists for World Evangelism. Gladys was an active partner in evangelical Christian ministries in Brazil, which centered on the planting of neighborhood churches, seminary training, and the dissemination of Christian literature. She also taught kindergarten at the Pan American Christian Academy, a school founded for missionary children. Gladys was actively engaged in fundraising for local organizations including orphanages, the Salvation Army, and PACA. She was tireless in her dedication to the poor and was a prayer warrior. She held herself to high standards and is fondly remembered for her gift of hospitality and her well-kept home.

After 37 years in Brazil, Ronald and Gladys retired to Ocala, Florida, where they became active at Central Baptist Church. In 2012 they moved to Sylvania, Ohio to be closer to their family. Gladys steadfastly cared for Ronald throughout his seven-year journey with Alzheimer's.

Gladys will be missed by her friends at Bethany Community Fellowship in Sylvania. She entered the presence of her Lord at Kingston Residence where she was lovingly cared for by the dedicated staff. She was preceded in death by her siblings Charles Jennewein, Jack Jennewein and June Walter. Cherishing her memory are her children Jill (Lee) Thompson, Jenifer (Mark) Christiaanse, Marc (Anita) Meznar, her four granddaughters and two great grandsons.

The family had private Graveside Services.

To honor her memory, contributions can be made to ABWE Donor Services, Box 8585, Harrisburg, PA 17105 -São Paulo Logos Seminary (Account 0735411-001).
