Gladys L. Alexander, age 94, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at Fountain View Nursing Home of Monroe. She was born on December 16, 1919 to Charles and Dolly (Barnes) Huffman in Marietta, Texas. Gladys moved to Toledo at the age of 20. She spent her life as a homemaker and was a dedicated member of Liberty Baptist Church for over 65 years. Gladys was especially proud of an award she received for 35 years of working with the children in Sunday School. She had many hobbies including gardening, reading and crocheting, but her biggest passion in life was her family. Gladys was a very giving person and always put others before herself. She spent the last few years of her life at Fountain View where she formed strong relationships with many of the staff members and other residents.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Primm Alexander; sister, Jewel Krummel; brother, Harold Huffman; and daughter-in-law, Karen Alexander. Gladys is survived by her loving children, Charles (Diana) Alexander, Kenneth (Marlene) Alexander, Marvin Alexander, Carol (Paul) LaCourse, Norma (Doug) Gonder, Jerry (Cheryl) Alexander and Shirley (Mark) Reed; 19 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive guests on Sunday from 2 – 8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd., Toledo (419-473-0300). Funeral Services will begin Monday at 11:00 a.m. at Liberty Baptist Church, 5501 Jackman Rd., Toledo with visitation one hour prior in the church. Interment will follow in Ottawa Hills Memorial Park.
Gladys' family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the staff and caregivers at Fountain View of Monroe, for the excellent care and love provided to her, whom they fondly called "Grandma."
