Gertrude M. Rochelle, age 88, a longtime resident of Toledo, passed away August 29th, 2013 at the Franciscan Care Center, Toledo. She was born December 25th, 1924 to Joseph and Hilda (Geddes) in Lima, Ohio. She graduated from St. Mary's High School and went on to work for the Marion Star Newspaper in Marion, Ohio as a Social Ambassador for many distinguished guests traveling through the area. She had the pleasure of meeting many U.S. Dignitaries, Socialites and even a President or two. Gertrude often shared her excitement of acting as a double for Mamie Eisenhower while she was visiting the area in 1953.
She married her husband, Frank J. Rochelle on October 4th, 1960 in Marion and together they shared 32 wonderful years together until he passed in September of 1992.
Gertrude loved to travel, her motto was "Have toothbrush, will travel" and that she did. She enjoyed trips throughout the 50 United States as well as many international trips which she loved to record in photo albums upon her return home. Some of her favorite trips included Rome and Italy.
Gertrude was a parishioner of St. Clement Catholic Church for more than 50 years where she was an active member of the Altar Rosary Society. She felt honored to be a Lay Distributor of communion during her later years at the church and a member of the Ladies Breakfast Group. Gertrude was also a volunteer at Flower Hospital.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Hilda (Geddes) Lawler, husband, Frank J. Rochelle, brother, Michael Lawler and sister, Donna Kaelber. Gertrude is survived by her loving sister, Joan Bollin, sister-in-law, Esther M. (James) Rose, cousin, Dan (Lois) Quinn and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Guests are invited to join the family, Saturday, September 7th, 2013 at Resurrection Cemetery, 5725 Hill Ave. for a Graveside Service beginning at 2:00 p.m. Officiating will be Gertrude's cousin Deacon Dan Quinn.
