Gerry Bunge

Geraldine J. Bunge passed away on July 28, 2017. Gerry was born to the late Bertel and Clara Jacobson on Sept. 25, 1931.

Gerry spent much of her career working to enrich the lives of others. She was the first teacher of Braille in Toledo Public Schools, where she taught from 1953 to 1956. Gerry worked at the Toledo Museum of Art in the 1980s and worked at the Sight Center of Northwest Ohio, teaching students life schools, cooking in particular, until her retirement. She would take her students to the Toledo Zoo, the Toledo Museum of Art and Maumee Bay State Park. Gerry also worked for the Board of Elections and helped work elections for more than 20 years. In her free time, Gerry loved knitting, crocheting, golfing with her husband, Arnold, swimming and playing card games such as cribbage and bridge. She was also an avid reader. Gerry enjoyed her family and was very involved in her children's activities. She was also involved in numerous activities during her time at Swan Creek. Gerry was a longtime member of St. Petri Lutheran Church and the Heather Downs Country Club. She was a charter member of the Toledo Bar Auxiliary, a member of Delta Gamma Sorority and the AAUW (American Association of University Women).

Left to cherish Gerry's memory are her children, Nanelle (Lee) Bruner, Jennine (Dale) Courtney and Dr. Frederick (Catherine) Bunge, her grand children, Katie (Sam) Marlow, Chris (Samantha) Bunge, Bethany Bruner, Rebecca Bruner, Greg Courtney, and Mitch Courtney as well as two great-grandsons and a great-granddaughter due soon.

Preceding her in death was her loving husband of 39 years, Arnold F. Bunge Jr., and her son Edward "Ted" Bunge.
Gerry's family would like to thank the staffs of Ohio Living Swan Creek and Ohio Living Hospice for all the care and support they provided Gerry and her family.

Gerry's family will be receiving guests from 10 a.m. to noon Friday, Aug. 4, at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd. (419-381-1900), Toledo. A memorial service will begin at noon with internment to follow at Toledo Memorial Park.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Northwest Ohio Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association, the Sight Center of Northwest Ohio or a charity of the donor's chose.
