Gerri Dzienny-Coombs

With broken hearts and great joy in Christ Jesus, we announce the passing of Gerri (Luty) Dzienny-Coombs, age 82, after an extended illness, on August 11, 2021. She was born to Casimer and Marie (Kosakowski) Luty, in Toledo, Ohio, on January 21, 1939. Gerri attended Woodward High School and BGSU. She retired from Toledo Public Schools, where she taught Banking and Finance at Start High School for 25 years. She was fondly known to her students as "Mrs. D". Prior to her tenure teaching, Gerri worked for Toledo Trust until her children were born. She then returned to what had become Trustcorp and Society Bank once the children were off to school.

Gerri was preceded in death by her parents and her faithful companion, Bailey. She is survived by her husband, Henry Coombs. Left to cherish her memory also include her children, Cyndie Dzienny-Hughes and Brian (Bonnie) Dzienny; step-children, Michael (Karen) Coombs, Marty Coombs and Paula Coombs. Missing her terribly will also be her grandchildren, Kayla Hughes, Chelsea Hughes, Ashley Aben and Brittany Dzienny as well as 10 step-grandchildren. The most recent generation got the honor of knowing their great-grandmother and include Jaliyah, Arianna, Janelle, Cameron, Jayven, Kaeson, Blake, Forever and Reigna; and one step-great-grandson. Her companion Oliver brought great joy to her while she was ill. Gerri is also survived by many cousins and friends.

Gerri's love of family was always apparent. She cherished the time she got to spend with family members. Traveling was always fun too. She enjoyed seeing new places and enjoying the activities and sites of the areas she visited. Many summers were spent at cottages on Lake Erie, Bear Lake, and Barton Lake, where she enjoyed fishing or just being near the water, many card games would be played and good times were had with family and friends.

Gerri was a friend of Bill W. She was there for countless friends and family members over the years, whether it be to lend an ear, help work through a crisis, or to celebrate an achievement or event.

The family will receive guests on Saturday, August 21, 2021, from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m., at Newcomer Funeral Home - Northwest Chapel, 4150 W. Laskey Rd., Toledo (419-473-0300). A Memorial Service will immediately follow, at 12:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio or to the Toledo Humane Society.
