Geraldine A. "Jerry" Imes, age 73, of Toledo, passed away peacefully Thursday, April 11, 2013 at Ebeid Hospice Residence surrounded by her loving family and friends. She was born on July 21, 1939 to Gerald and Iantha (Schug) Chappuies in Toledo. Jerry was a graduate of the University of Toledo earning her Bachelor's degrees in Education in 1961 and in Science in 1962. She was a member of the Chi Omega Sorority. Jerry lived in American Samoa from 1966 – 1969 where she was a TV teacher. She worked with the Education Television project in Pago Pago, American Samoa. Jerry also taught at Woodward and Bowsher and retired from the Toledo Public School System after more than 30 years of dedicated service. She was a high school tennis coach at Bowsher for many years and was a worldwide traveler. Jerry co-authored four children's book and loved sports. She enjoyed scuba diving, skiing and college football; especially the Toledo Rockets and Georgia Bulldogs. Jerry and her husband were members and very active in the Alumni Association with the University of Toledo, having recently won Volunteer of the Year with the Alumni. Jerry will be deeply missed by all of those who knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her parents. Jerry is survived by her loving husband of 23 years, Chet Imes; brother, Duane (Debbie) Chappuies; nephews, Gregg (Shelly) and Michael (Holly) Chappuies; great-nephews, Evan, Matthew, Logan and Seth; great-nieces, Samantha and Hannah; great-great-nephews, Owen and Liam Chappuies; the daughters she never had, Lorena (Daniel) Gloden and Stacey Scharf; and many other relatives and dear friends.
The family will receive guests on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd., Toledo (419-473-0300) with Funeral Services beginning at 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Ottawa Hills Memorial Park.
