Gerald Wojcik, a beloved husband and father, passed away on February 17, 2025 at Oakleaf Village of Sylvania. Born on May 1, 1935, in Toledo, Ohio, Jerry was a proud graduate of Woodward high school. He supported his family working as an engineer in the Tech Center at Owens Illinois, retiring as the head of Electronic Machine Control. During his career at OI, Jerry had the opportunity to travel to Japan and France, as well as all over the United States. He and his wife were also given the opportunity to take the trip of their lifetime together to China on one of Jerry's business trips.
Jerry served his country proudly and honorably, in the Army while stationed in the Philippines, during the Korean War, proposing to his wife, Jean, after only one date before he went off to serve his country. Jerry was especially proud of travelling to Washington D.C. on the Honor Flight, and receiving a police motorcade escort to the Korean War memorial. Jerry enjoyed amateur radio, operating his ham radio call sign WA8LUC, and spending time on his computer and other electronics. He enjoyed listening to Frank Sinatra's music, and was excited to have seen him in concert. Jerry, also, greatly enjoyed watching football, with him and his daughter spending countless weekends together watching his Detroit Lions and their Ohio State Buckeyes. One of their last special moments together was cheering on their beloved Buckeyes to victory in this year's National Championship.
Jerry was adored and respected by his family, and is survived by his loving daughter, Marisa, son, Jeff (Connie), grandchildren Paige and Grant, and special niece Cindy (Tim) Vetter. He shared a special bond with his sister, Elaine Obertacz, lifelong friend of 85 years, Jerry Fuss, and companion, Sharon Heath. Jerry also greatly enjoyed spending time with his furry companions, Zeke and Cujo, who always put a smile on his face.
Jerry is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 60 years Alice "Jean" Wojcik, his father, Edward Wojcik, mother, Bertha Wojcik Sniecinski, and brother-in-law, Richard Obertacz.
A mass in celebration of Jerry's life will be held on March 6, 2025 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Maumee, OH, beginning at 10:30 am. Arrangements were entrusted to Newcomer Funeral Home, Southwest Chapel, Toledo, Ohio.
