Gerald L. Winland, of Toledo, died unexpectedly at home March 20, 2012. The oldest of three children he was born to Harold "Bruno" and Eileen Winland in Toledo, Ohio on December 13, 1937. He enlisted in the Navy and soon after met his soon to be wife Leslee VanDyke. The two were married on July 6, 1957 and were married for 45 years until her death in 2002. After an honorable discharge from the Navy, Jerry worked for Western Electric and some years later was employed at GTE as a telephone installer/repairman until his retirement. He started a new life with Pat Truax and enjoyed times with her and their various pets. Jerry enjoyed painting, cooking, gardening and spending time with his family and had a big heart in more ways than one.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Leslee and his sister Judith Follas. Jerry is survived by his fiancé and companion, Pat Truax; his three children, Gregory (Kathy) Winland, Kim (Debbie) Isaac and Lisa (Peter) Ackerman; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren who were his pride and joy; and sister, Jeanette (Jim) Fountain.
The family will receive guests on Saturday from 3 – 8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300) with Funeral Services beginning at 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
