Gerald Glenn Umbel

Gerald Glenn Umbel, age 82, of Toledo, passed away Tuesday, September 7, 2021 at Ebeid Residence, Sylvania surrounded by his family. He was born June 14, 1939 to Quincy and Mildred (Teets) Umbel in Friendsville, Maryland. Gerald was one of 14 children so he enjoyed the comradery and friendships held with his siblings as they all grew up. He met and married the love of his life, Beverly Ann Fike on September 2, 1958 and together they started their family, raising their two children in a home filled with love and laughter. Gerald and Beverly resided in Northeast Ohio in Thompson for more than 20 years. Before moving to the Toledo area to be closer to family, Gerald and Beverly also spent a few years in Florida. Gerald was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother, cherishing the time spent with family and friends. He was employed with Caterpillar and Pent Air for many years before retiring.

He was just recently preceded in death by his loving wife of 63 years, Beverly Ann (Fike) Umbel. In addition to his parents, Quincy and Mildred (Fike) Umbel, he was also preceded in death by his sisters, Emogene Barefoot, Judy Sweitzer and Nancy Wayne. Gerald is survived by his loving children, Dale (Gigi) Umbel and Trudy (Douglas) Schwartz; grandchildren, Gregg (Sarah) Schwartz, Jonathan (Chessy) Umbel, Chadd (Phaedra) Schwartz, Brittany (Tony) DiPadova; great-grandchildren, Brayden, Camdyn, Aralyn, Preston, Maddalena, one on the way, Luke, Elliott, Lila, Rhea; siblings, Ronnie Umbel, Peggy (Don) Savage, Carol (Roger) Fisher, Stan (Marylou) Umbel, Bill Umbel, Cathy (George) McGhee, Quincy "Buddy" (Ginny) Umbel, Rick (Mary Ann) Umbel, Ervin (Brenda) Umbel and Debbie Rosenberger. Many nieces, nephews and dear friends will also cherish his memory.
