Gerald T. "Gerry" Carter, Sr., age 78, of Toledo, went home to be with the Lord, Thursday, October 9, 2014. He was born on March 6, 1936 to Henry Clay and Bettie (Turner) Carter in Toledo. Gerry graduated from Scott High School and went on to receive both his Bachelor and Master Degrees from University of Toledo.
Gerry worked at IBM Corporation in computer programming and then went on to own and operate, Carter & Associates/Computer Results Corp. for 20 years before becoming a Senior Systems Analyst for Toledo Public Schools. He also taught math and computer programming at Davis Business College, University of Toledo and Owens Technical College.
Gerry was an avid golfer who also enjoyed fishing. His greatest pride was in his children and grandchildren. He loved watching sporting events, dance recitals and other events in their lives. Gerry loved to sing and was in a number of men's choirs over the years. He enjoyed laughing and will always be remembered with a smile on his face.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Nancy Schueren; and nephew, Stephen Schueren. Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 14 years, Joann Carter; children, Kathy, Jenny (Mark), Skip (Kelly), Cindy, Chris (Therese), and John (Karen); stepchildren, Debbie (James), David, Donna (Dave), Danny (Shelly) and Doug; grandchildren, Henry, Jim, Sherrie (Eric), Jordan, Allison, Gabe, Jack, Ethan, Emma, Josh, Jonah, Ben, Blake, Andy, Lucas, Alexa, Nicole, Lydia, Devin and Dillon; great grandchildren, Dominic and Sophia; brother-in-law, Gary; and nephews, John and Matthew.
The family will receive guests on Saturday from 4 – 8:00 p.m. and Sunday from 2 – 8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd., Toledo (419-473-0300). A Scripture Service and Sharing of Memories will take place Sunday at 7:00 p.m. A Prayer Service will begin Monday at 9:15 a.m. in the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church, 4100 Harvest Lane, Toledo. Interment will follow in Toledo Memorial Park.
