Gerald R. Smith Sr.

Gerald Ronald Smith Sr., age 68, of Oregon, Ohio, passed away on August 6, 2023, at St. Charles Mercy Hospital. Gerald was born March 16, 1955, in Toledo, Ohio, to the late Charles and Helen (Cordel) Smith.

Gerald attended Waite High School. He made his career making all kinds of mattresses. If you had a question about a bed, he was the man to go too. Gerald enjoyed camping, bowling, roller skating, watching TV, especially his sports teams, and eating his M&M and bologna sandwiches. A family man, he enjoyed spending time with his family, making wonderful memories and sharing laughs. He loved taking day trips with his wife, where they would check out new places.

Those left to forever cherish his memory are his loving children, Gerald R. (Candace) Smith Jr., Melissa (Cathy) Tholl, and Raymond Smith Sr.; grandchildren, Tyler Smith Sr., Donivan Baker, Raymond Smith Jr., and Addyson Smith; step-grandchildren, Hunter Amburn, Jacob Amburn, and Ryleigh Amburn; great grandchild, Tyler Smith Jr.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Gerald was preceded in death by his wife, Lynn E. (Tholl) Smith, whom he married on May 5, 1990; and a grandson, Isaiah Smith.

Family and friends may gather at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd. Toledo, Ohio 43614, on Thursday, August 10, 2023, from 2:00 pm - 8:00 pm. Gerald's funeral service will be on Friday, August 11, 2023, at 10:00 am, at the funeral home, with Deacon Jennifer Heinze, ELCA officiating. Gerald will be laid to rest, next to Lynn, at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park.
