Gerald Mccarthy

Gerald "Jerry" McCarthy, age 68, of Toledo, passed away Monday, August 25, 2008 at the Toledo Hospital. He was born on February 25, 1940 to James J. III and Irene (Hubbard) McCarthy in Toledo. Jerry loved to grow roses and had over 400 in his garden. He was also an exhibitor and judged at the competitions, even receiving a Silver Medal in 2006. Jerry was involved in the Toledo Rose Society and also worked in the test gardens at Toledo Botanical Gardens. Along with showing roses, Jerry has received many other awards as well.

He was preceded in death by his father, James III, mother, Irene "Hub", brothers, James IV and Robert and sister, Joan. Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Peach; daughter, Martha; son, Michael; sisters, Patricia and Judy; brother, Timothy (Joan); and many other family members and dear friends.

There will be no visitation or services for Jerry, per his request. The Newcomer Funeral Home assisted the family with professional services.

In lieu of flowers those wishing to make donations are asked to consider the Toledo Rose Society or Helping Hands of St. Louis.
