George S. "Steve" Wilson, age 68, of Toledo, passed away peacefully Tuesday, April 30, 2013 at the Toledo Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on May 29, 1944 to William and Veronica "Sally" (Schaadt) Wilson in Columbus, Ohio. Steve was a veteran of the U.S. Army Reserves. He was employed as a police officer with Ottawa Hills Police Department for over 16 years until retiring as a Sergeant. Steve was a graduate of Lourdes College where he earned his master's degree. He was also very active with their alumni association and volunteering. Steve was a longtime member of the Cathedral of Praise, now known as the Church on Strayer. He was diehard fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes, was an avid fisherman and enjoyed traveling and taking vacations with his family. Steve loved nothing more than the time spent with his family, especially his granddaughters. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Steve is survived by his sons, Christopher J., Timothy A. and Michael P. Wilson; daughter, Carrie M. (John) Kuntz; granddaughters, Ciera J. Johnson and Delilah D. Kuntz; brother, Robert W. Wilson; brother-in-law, Jerry Herb; sisters-in-law, Max (Dan) Balcer, Anita Weber and Theresa (Patrick) Beasley; and many nieces and nephews and dear friends. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 47 years, Sharon A. Wilson on March 9, 2013.
The family will receive guests on Sunday from 2 – 7:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd., Toledo (419-473-0300). Funeral Services will begin Monday at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home. Military honors and a Police Final Salute will also be rendered.
