George J. Newberger

George J. Newberger, age 86, of Toledo, passed away Saturday, August 2, 2008 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Toledo, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on March 12, 1922 to George and Anna Newberger in Cleveland, Ohio. George was a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard serving during World War II. He served on an LST, in both the Atlantic and Pacific. George worked for 40 years in the insurance business before retiring. He often enjoyed traveling with his wife and family. He loved to garden and was an avid reader. George was also obsessed with cleaning his car! He will be deeply missed by all of those who knew and loved him.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Matthew Newberger and son-in-law, John O'Neil. George is survived by his loving wife of almost 62 years, Jean Newberger; children, Lynne O'Neil, Richard (Leslie) and Raymond (Diane) Newberger; special granddaughter, Jennifer (Frank) Shuff; special grandson, Michael (Tina) Halleck and 7 other grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren.

There will be no visitation or services for George. The Newcomer Funeral Home, (419-473-0300) assisted the family with professional services.
