George J. Chorba

November 3, 1945 — July 19, 2014

"What a piece of work is a man, so noble in reason, so infinite in faculty." George J. Chorba left this world to trek across the universe on Friday, July 18, 2014.

George was born to George L. Chorba and Agnes A. Fuleky Chorba on November 3, 1945.

As a young man, he was a member of St. Stephen Church and attended Birmingham Elementary School and Waite High School. He wrestled and played football for Waite while honing his interest in the arts. He was an education graduate of the University of Toledo, focusing his interest in the arts. He met his future wife Nannette Barbee-Chorba while attending classes at the Toledo Museum of Art. George and Nan married on September 13, 1975. George was eternally grateful to Miss Diana Attie and Mr. Peter Elloian, who guided him in developing his skills as an artist.

George taught for 34 years for the Bucyrus City School District as art instructor at Bucyrus High School. As an educator, he was most proud of the numerous students who went on to pursue art careers as well as those students who have developed a life-long interest in art and music. George was instrumental in helping his students receive scholarship help in pursuing their dreams.

As a father, husband and family man, he dearly cherished his family. He is the proud father of Hezekiah David Chorba and wife April Wilson-Chorba, who reside in San Francisco, California. Hezie and April are expecting their first child, Ivy Victoria Chorba this October.

George has two brothers and one sister. His brother Thomas M. Chorba (Toledo, OH) is married to Colleen. His brother Gerald M. Chorba (Athens, OH) is married to Lyr. George fondly cherished the memory of his sister-in-law, Ingrid Chorba. His sister Carol A. Muhleck resides in Toledo, Ohio.

George became a Chorba-Barbee when he joined Nan in marriage. He warmly embraced the Barbee family. He is the proud son-in-law of Rosemary and Bill Barbee. He is a brother-in-law to Phillippe and Diane Barbee (Toledo, OH) and to Garry and Judy Barbee (Sommerset Lake, MI).

He is an uncle to Alexander, Allison, and Caitlin Chorba; Anuska and Nadja Chorba; Carolyn and Laura Muhleck and Kathy; Lindsey, Bryan, and Lauren Barbee.

He was blessed with close life-long friends Chris Christoff and Robert Sarka.

George and Nan wish to thank Dr. Al-Nsour and his partners for the loving care and respect they extended him during his treatments. We also wish to thank the Buckeye Central staff, students and community. Your warm wishes and positive vibrations allowed us to move forward in the healing process.

In lieu of memorials, Nan asks each of George's friends and family to write a short remembrance of him so that we can create a memory book for his granddaughter Ivy Victoria. Your contributions will allow her to come to know her grandfather through your eyes.

The family will receive visitors at the Barbee family home on Friday, July 25, 2014, from 2:30 to 6:00 PM. Our home is located on the corner of Kenwood Blvd. and Meadowwood in Toledo, Ohio.
