George H. Flowers, Jr. died peacefully at Ebeid Hospice in Sylvania, Ohio on Wednesday, June 29, 2016, after living for a short time with aggressive leukemia.
George, also known as "Pops," was born in Toledo to George Sr. and Marion Flowers on July 4th, 1937 (he was a Yankee Doodle Dandy)! He attended school in Toledo and operated several barbershops on the West Side. After he retired from barbering, he worked in maintenance for Toledo Public Schools, which is where he met his second wife, Carol. He served in the Army National Guard. In his heyday, he was an avid golfer, bowler, and fisherman.
George is preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Barbara Flowers.
He is survived by his current wife Carol of Toledo; sons, Jeff of Texas and Brian of Michigan; stepchildren, Deborah, Jamie, Douglas and Karen Sue all of Toledo and Cheryl of Washington. He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren, Megan, Chris, Brooke, Jude, Lauren, Jacqueline, Kate, Curtis, Austyn, Jessica, Samantha and Shane along with six great-grandchildren.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to the staff at Toledo Hospital and Ebeid Hospice for taking such great care of George in his final weeks.
