In humble surroundings, George began life as one of nine children born to George (Sr.) and Julia (Cvetkovich) Segur in Monroe, Michigan on June 19, 1938. He was the eldest boy and maintained a lifelong relationship with his brothers and sisters, their children and grandchildren.
He fondly recalled the profound impact experienced by his family when his mother began to study the Bible with Jehovah's Witnesses in 1950. Friends often heard him say that the Truth had saved his life in those early years. George was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses in 1953 and endeavored to faithfully and loyally apply Bible principles in daily life. This included regularly sharing the good news of God's Kingdom with his neighbors as the only real and permanent hope for mankind.
In 1962, George married the love of his life, Ellie. He had eyes only for her – building a lifetime of memories over their 52 years together. Highlights include their first year of marriage living above a hardware store in Monroe, camping trips with family and friends, endless remodeling projects, gardening together and vacations across the US and abroad.
Together with Ellie, he helped raise their four sons - Jeffery (Dian), Jameson, Jonathan (Claudia) and Jathan. He was a hands-on father that changed diapers, kissed skinned knees and checked under the bed for monsters. In later years, he enjoyed spoiling his only grandchild Benjamin with rides on his John Deere and playing engineer with model train sets.
George was an industrious man. He lovingly provided in abundance for his family and never shied away from hard work. He spent 31 years as an employee of General Motors, retiring in 2001 from the Skilled Trades department of GM Powertrain.
His hospitable nature moved him to give freely to those in need. Often, he was there to help before you could ask and without hesitation.
George will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him. The family will be hosting a memorial service to share cherished memories and reflect on his hope for the future on Saturday, April 18th at 2:00pm at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses on 3725 W. Alexis Road, Toledo, Ohio 43623.
