Genevieve A. Jurski

February 29, 1916 — February 15, 2014

Genevieve Jurski passed peacefully into the welcoming arms of her Savior, at the memorable age of 97, on February 15, 2014. She was surrounded by her loving family at the Whitehouse residence of her granddaughter Dawn.

She was a "Leap Year "baby born in Toledo on February 29, 1916 to Stanley and Michaelina Kuchcinski in the Polish Village. Mom joked on her 84th birthday that she was finally 21 and old enough to drink. (As if)

While raising her seven children she worked at Willys Overland during WWII and retired from Davis Paper Box and then the Sisters of St. Francis in Sylvania, Ohio.

Genevieve was a devout Catholic belonging to St. Hedwig Parish for most of her life. She prayed the Rosary daily and in her failing health looked forward to Sunday Catholic Mass on television.

She loved to travel, having been to Europe several times. She especially looked forward to visiting Germany where her son Donald lives. Most of the states, including Hawaii and Las Vegas were part of her travels. She enjoyed playing cards (poker anyone?) and was a whiz at Rummy Cube. Reading, watching "Wheel of Fortune" and "Jeopardy" and an occasional casino visit were some of her favorite things.

Genevieve is survived by her loving children; Sister Joan Jurski OSF, Diane Podgorski, Shirley Rouppas, Sharon Dapkus, Donald (Gerlinde) Jurski, and Ronald (Sue) Jurski, 17 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and 16 great great grandchildren. In addition to her husband Anthony, parents and 5 siblings she was preceded in death by her daughter Roslyn Wilson, granddaughter Denise Jurski, sons in law Gerald Podgorski and Jim Wilson.

Mom was able to live independently until 3 years ago when she was welcomed into the home of her granddaughter Dawn Croydon and husband Scott. They became her primary care givers. The family is eternally grateful to them for their compassion and loving care.

We can't imagine what our lives would be like without our matriarch but we will all hold wonderful memories of her in our hearts.

The family will receive guests Thursday, February 20, 2014 from 2:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. in the Newcomer Funeral Home, 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd., Toledo (419-381-1900) where a Wake Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, February 21, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Rose Church, Perrysburg. (Please meet directly at the Church). Interment will follow in St. Rose Cemetery.

The family would like to thank Kathy and Laura from Hospice of Northwest Ohio and D'Arcey of Senior Helpers for their compassionate care of Mom.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio or Sisters of St. Francis, Sylvania, Ohio.
