Gene Gordon, a dedicated mechanic and a cherished member of the Toledo community, passed away on April 17, 2025, at the age of 87. Born on September 16, 1937, in Toledo, Ohio, Gene's journey through life was marked by his unwavering commitment to his family, his country, and his passions.
Gene dedicated over thirty years to Textile Leather, where he honed his skills and made significant contributions to the company. Known for his quiet demeanor, Gene was often seen as a loner, preferring the company of his vehicles and the serenity of nature to large gatherings. He proudly served in the U.S. Army, where as a mechanic, he ensured that all vehicles were in peak working condition, exemplifying the dedication and discipline that characterized his life.
Throughout his life, Gene harbored a deep love for corvettes, often found tinkering under the hood, deeply engrossed in the mechanics of cars. His hobbies extended beyond automobiles; he was a bird watcher and had a profound affection for animals, reflecting his gentle spirit and appreciation for the world around him.
Gene is survived by his loving sister Darlene Partin and her husband Sam, as well as his nieces Sheila Spoering and her husband Garry, Shawna Coates and her partner Brett, Erin Connolly and her husband Geoff, Angela Arvanitis, Darlene Spradlin, Cyd Marie Heringhauser, and Donna Hatch. He is also survived by his nephew Andrew Dachoff, niece, Karen Carr and her husband Tom.
Gene was preceded in death by his siblings: brothers Andrew Dachoff, Sidney Gordon Jr., and sisters Mary Shade, Nancy Gordon, and Evelyn Gordon.
A visitation to celebrate Gene's life will be held on April 25, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Newcomer Funeral Home, located at 4150 W Laskey Rd, Toledo, OH. Following the visitation, a graveside service will take place at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park at 4210 Central Ave, Toledo, OH, at 11:00 AM.
