Gene Curtis passed away Sunday, December 13, 2015, surrounded by family, from a heart attack suffered earlier in the week. He graduated from Bowling Green State University where he was a member of Delta Tau Delta and met his future wife, Florence. He served with the Ohio National Guard and retired from the A.C. Nielsen Company.
Gene was an avid fan of the Toledo Mud Hens and the Detroit Tigers and traveled to many Florida spring training games. He enjoyed trips to Las Vegas, various blues festivals and white water rafting. Gene especially enjoyed sitting on the front porch in his rocker reading during the summer, spending time with his grandchildren and his two cats, Felicia and Fiona. He was a founding member of the Black Swamp Blues Society and the Secretary of the organization for 9 years. Gene also belonged to the Toledo Jazz Society.
Gene is survived by his wife of 58 years, Flo; children, Jeff and Ann; grandchildren, Hannah and Colin; and many other family members and dear friends.
The family will receive guests on Friday, December 18, 2015 from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. with a Memorial Service beginning at 12:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300). There will be a private, family burial at a future date.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Toledo Humane Society or a charity of your choice.
The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Mercy St. Anne Hospital for their great care and compassion.
