Gayle Renee Janney, age 58, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away on Tuesday, December 3, 2013 at home after a long illness. She was born at home on Central Avenue on September 21, 1955 to Robert D. and Helen (Wines) Simon in Swanton, Ohio
She married William "Bill" Janney on January 29, 1982 in Bowling Green, Ohio. They renewed their wedding vows on August 29, 1992 at St. Joseph Church in Sylvania, Ohio. She graduated from Evergreen High School in 1973. Gayle worked as a baker and secretary. Her love of baking had Gayle making cookies and brownies to share with her family and friends. She also worked tirelessly with helping people in 12 Step Recovery Work. She and her husband were active in 12 Step Recovery Work since 1983. They were also volunteers at Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center and Concord Nursing Home. Gayle was an usher at Gesu Church.
Gayle enjoyed crocheting and handmade crafts; she often shared those with family and friends. She always enjoyed and won at Bingo. Traveling with Bill to Niagara Falls, Florida, Grand Cayman and the Western Mountains were special joys for her. Their last trip was to Mount Rushmore in 2012.
Gayle leaves to cherish her memory her husband, William "Bill" Janney; sisters, Eloise (Tom) Slawinski, Luann (Don) Kunisch, Melody (Bill) Garber and brothers, Daniel, Barry and Hal (Lori) Simon; many nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Todd; sister in law, Karen Simon and brother in law, Dale Schwerdt.
The family will receive guests on Sunday, December 8, 2013 from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300). There will be a Wake Service at 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Her Memorial Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated on Monday, December 9, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at Gesu Church, 2049 Parkside Blvd, Toledo, Ohio Friends are invited to join the family 15 minutes prior to Mass. Her inurnment will follow in Historic Woodlawn Cemetery.
