ZABOROWSKI
GARY
Surrounded by his devoted family, Gary K. Zaborowski died at Toledo Hospital on January 3, 2009 after valiantly combating pancreatic cancer for thirty-one months. Born on December 12, 1948 to Bert and Bonnie (Bubenko) Zaborowski, who preceded him in death, he attended St. Charles Catholic School as a child. A 1996 graduate of Bowsher High School, Gary was a decorated Vietnam Veteran. For thirty-three years, he worked at LOF-Pilkington in Rossford. After his retirement, he continued working part-time at Convergys and later at AVI Services at UT, where his wife Shari serves on the faculty.
As a grateful member of Alcoholics Anonymous for years, Gary helped many others gain and maintain sobriety. His passions included playing basketball and running, working on computers, enjoying Ohio State and Cleveland Browns games, driving his red Corvette, and spending time with his grandchildren. Traveling extensively throughout the United States, Europe, and Canada over the years, he and Shari climbed to the top of the Acropolis in Athens, Greece on the one year anniversary of the diagnosis of pancreatic cancer.
Gary will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by his adoring wife, Shari O'Brien; beloved children, Michelle (Marc) Abbe and Jayme Zaborowski; six precious grandsons; brother, Dick and sister-in-law Chris; step-sons, David (Amy) Eason and Danny O'Brien; an extended family and wonderful friends. Gary's unwavering faith, courage, and hope in the face of a vicious disease will continue to uplift each of us he touched, reminding us of the sanctity of life and graciousness of a God who sustains us.
The family wishes to thank Drs. Facey, Schaefer, and Kasunic, the staff at the Toledo Clinic Oncology Department and the angels in nurses' garb on the fourth floor of Toledo Hospital for faithful, competent, and tender care.
A service joyfully celebrating Gary's life will be held on January 7, 2009 at 6:00 p.m. at McCord Road Christian Church, 4765 McCord Rd., Sylvania, OH 43560. A reception at the church will follow the service. The Newcomer Funeral Home assisted the family with professional services.
In lieu of flowers, tributes in Gary's name can be made to Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, 2141 Rosecrans Ave. Ste. 7000, El Segundo, CA 90245 (www.pancan.org.) or McCord Road Christian Church.
