Gary E. Oswald, age 66, passed away suddenly on Saturday, October 4, 2014 of heart complications. He was born on April 10, 1948 to the late Kathleen and Freland Oswald in Toledo, Ohio.
Gary graduated from Clay High School in 1966 and immediately enlisted in the U.S. Army. He proudly served from 1966-1969 as a Heavy Equipment Operator in Thailand during the Vietnam War. Gary carried on that occupation at B.P. Refinery for many years.
He enjoyed spending winters at his condo in Florida, traveling to Europe, visiting all 50 States and sailing on 35 cruises. Gary was looking forward to taking his entire family on a cruise this December. He cheered on the Ohio State Buckeyes and loved Corvettes, having bought his fourth and first brand new one on his 60th birthday. Most of all, Gary loved his family, always giving life lessons to his daughters and his four grandchildren. He enjoyed going to his grandson's soccer games and watching his granddaughters sing and dance.
Left to cherish his memory is his high school sweetheart and loving wife of 46 years, Janice; daughters, Allison Scott and Jill (Rob) Hawk; siblings, John (Liz), Ron (Tricia) and Linda (Chuck) Tinney; grandchildren, Brody, Lily, Marlee and Delaney. In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by his brother, Terry.
The family will receive guests on Wednesday, October 8, 2014 from 3-8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd., Toledo (419-381-1900). The Funeral Service will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday. Burial will take place at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to: The Alzheimer's Association.
