Gary L. Pratt, age 78, of Walbridge, formerly of Oregon, went to be with his Lord on Thursday, May 24, 2012 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Toledo, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on August 24, 1933 to John and Wilma (Shamel) Pratt in Toledo. Gary graduated from Macomber Vocational High School in 1951. He was previously employed at Libbey Glass, Abbott Laboratories, where he was the longest for 18 years, Snap on Tools and then he retired from Walter Gogel Company in 1998. Gary enjoyed photography, lighthouses and world traveler to all 50 states and to Europe, New Zealand and Australia. He was a people person, loved children and especially loved taking his children on vacations. Gary was a member of Maumee United Methodist Church. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. One of his favorite parting phrases was "keep smiling." Gary will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, William and sister, Shirley Kuhn. Gary is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Nancy (Mehan) Pratt; siblings, Jack and Barry (Linda); daughter, Debra (Bill) Burns; sons, Gary, Jr. "Skip" (Cindy) and Robert Pratt; 10 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; special friends, Carl, Mary Lou and Rick Howard; and many other family members.
The family will receive guests on Tuesday from 2- 8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300). Funeral Services will begin Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home. Officiating will be longtime family friend Pastor Bob Loar, from Solid Rock Church, Blissfield, MI and Deaconess Becky Warnock, Congregational Care at Maumee United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in Toledo Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made in Gary's honor to Maumee United Methodist Church, Grace United Methodist Church in Samaria, MI or Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
