Gale R. East, aged 83, of Toledo, OH passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 22nd at Ebeid Hospice Center, Sylvania, OH. He was born on June 21, 1941 in Toledo, OH to Donald James and Vivian East
In his youth, Gale enjoyed skating, water skiing, scouting and especially cars. He began work at an early age to buy his first car at 14, working (and racing!) at local dragstrips through his teen years. Gale and Judy met through a mutual friend and not long after got married and started a family. He continued working as a mechanic and eventually opened his own auto repair shop, East’s Point Place Auto Service on 131st St. In addition to the shop, Gale went on to become an owner/operator truck driver for nearly 40 years, notably building each of his own trucks from the wheels up! He retired from trucking in 2017 at 76.
Gale is survived by his loving wife Judy East (Metzger) of 62 years; his three children Mark and his wife Kandy, Julie and her husband Aaron and Eric and his wife Hayley; his grandchildren Will, Amanda, David and fiancé Leah, Katie, Aubrey and Naomi; and his great grandchildren Xavior, Emmit and Adalynn and Skylar. Gale is also survived by his three brothers Gerry, Jim and Chuck and their families.
Visitation for Gale will be held on Sunday, March 30th, 2025 beginning at 12:00 noon with a brief service at 2:00pm at Newcomer Funeral Home, NW Chapel 4150 W. Laskey Rd., Toledo, OH 43623
