Gail L. Swartz

July 8, 1950 — June 4, 2021

Gail "Pickle" Swartz (Heilman) 70, of Perrysburg, Ohio and formerly of Luckey, Ohio passed away Friday, June 4th, 2021 surrounded by her husband, children, her granddaughter and a very close friend of the family.

Gail is survived by her husband, Roger Swartz of Perrysburg, OH; her daughter, Stacy Miles (Swartz) and husband Joe Miles of Richmond, VA; daughter, Stefanie Swartz of Wauseon, OH; son, Joshua Swartz and Jarrel Morris of Genoa, OH; son, Jeremy Swartz and wife Chelsea of Genoa, OH; grandson; Eric Miles; granddaughter, Sierra Miles and grandsons, Corren and Asher Swartz. She is also survived by her sister, Linda Hager and brothers, Larry and Dave Heilman.

Gail retired from Otterbein Portage Valley where she worked as a certified nursing assistant in the Alzheimer's Unit. At Otterbein she started out in the Housekeeping department but because of her genuinely warm, caring, loving and nurturing personality she was encouraged to become a CNA and possibly a nurse. She loved the care that she was able to provide her residents in the Alzheimer's unit too much to pursue a career as an LPN or an RN in fear that she wouldn't be able to provide the same care. She truly loved each and everyone of the residents she took care of. After retirement she cared for her grandchildren while their parents worked.

We each posted the news of our mom's passing on Facebook and some of the comments were too beautiful not to share so I'm going to add a couple of them here. (I never knew my brother Jeremy had such a way with words! I've been trying to figure out how he won Chelsea over and I think I finally know! His comment was amazing.) He said "I love you mom, always and forever, and my heart will hurt for a long time. There will will never be a day that goes by that I won't think about you and how absolutely perfect you are. I will never forget your beautiful smile, your laugh or the way you gazed at Corren and Asher while they played and made you laugh. It saddens me to know that you won't be here physically to watch them grow up but I know you will be looking down on them and you will be just as proud of them as you are us. I love you, I miss you, and you will forever be with me in my mind and in my heart.'' -Jeremy Swartz

"Mom you're absolutely beautiful. Everyone was fortunate to know you and I am beyond blessed to have you as a mother. You were perfect in all our lives no matter what role you had. Just perfect." -Joshua Swartz

"Today heaven gained an angel, my mom. I will miss you and love you always and forever." She also said "Mom you were the absolute best mom we could have ever asked for and so beautiful." -Stefanie Swartz

Well, I guess it's my turn. Dad doesn't have Facebook so I couldn't quote anything he said from there but I know he misses you terribly and has said he doesn't know what he's going to do without you. The truth is that none of do. Its been over a week and it still doesn't seem real at all. We were all by your side when you took your last breath but it's still not sinking in. You and I were a lot a like on some things and very different with others and that sure could cause us to really bump heads sometimes. Sometimes we had an absolute blast together and other times I don't think we could get away from each other fast enough! Either way you're my mom and I love and miss you much. I wish we could have spent more time together, even just another five minutes to say how much we really do mean to each other and love each other. I do love you so very much. This is by far the hardest thing I've ever had to write in all my 43 years and I feel like I could just go on forever but I won't. We all love you and will miss you more than you will ever know.

With love,
Stacy Miles

It was mom's wish not to have any kind of visitation or funeral so we are going to honor her final wish.
Thank you for respecting that decision.
