Frederick "Fred" G. Riches, age 81, passed away peacefully with his family by his side October 8, 2018. He was born February 3, 1937 to the late Tracy and Pearl Riches in Toledo.
Fred joined the U.S. Navy in 1955 following High School graduation. He served at the end of the Korean War.
Fred later worked in Sales for Dana Corporation for 39 years, retiring in 1998 as a District Manager.
He married Jean Shippy Kuhr in 1975, together they had eight wonderful children.
Fred was a devout Christian and active in his church. He attended Concordia Lutheran Church, Toledo, OH. And most recently First Presbyterian Church in Haines City, FL.
He enjoyed RVing and travelled to all states and many countries.
Fred enjoyed fishing especially his trips to Alaska. He did participate in the pre-Iditarod.
Fred loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He especially loved the senior trips with his grandchildren. Fred was a licensed pilot and his last flights were as a co-pilot of a Navy plane. He enjoyed participating as a crew member, with his son, at the Bonneville Salt Flats.
Fred is survived by his wife of 43 years, Jean; children, Jina (Dave) Felix, Diana Meisner, Richard Kuhr, Kent Riches, Michelle Myers, Teresa (Gary) Huffman and Karen (Ed) Harwell; 18 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild, brother, Jack (Gen) Riches and sister, Jill Rothert. In addition to his parents, Fred was preceded in death by his son, Russell; son-in-law, Porky Myers; daughter-in-law, Tammy Kuhr; sister-in-law, Julie Riches and brother-in-law, Galen Rothert.
The family will receive guests, Friday October 12, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at Newcomer West Sylvania Chapel, 3655 King Road, Toledo (419-392-9500). A Memorial Service will be held Friday, October 12, 2018 at 12:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Burial will be privately held at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to Concordia Lutheran Church in Fred's memory.
