Frederick R. Hakius, Sr.

Frederick R. "Fred" Hakius, Sr., age 95, of Toledo, passed away Monday June 4, 2018. He was born April 23, 1923 to Fred and Elizabeth (Boelter) Hakius in Toledo. Fred was a 1941 graduate of Scott High School where he was on the all city football team his senior year. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army as a Staff Sergeant serving in WWII. Upon returning from service, he met Paula L. Wright, the love of his life and they were married on September 10, 1949. They were happily married almost 55 years at her death in 2004.
Fred worked for 44 years at Plaskon Co, later Allied Chemical in Toledo retiring in 1986. During those years he obtained a realtor's license and sold real estate on a part-time basis. Following his retirement Fred worked part-time at the Toledo Museum of Art for 20 years "retiring" from that position in 2006. He was a member of the Sanford L. Collins Masonic Lodge. Fred enjoyed golfing in the Bay View Seniors Golf League partnering with his brother, John, through the 2012 golf season. He was an avid fan of the University of Toledo football, Toledo Mud Hens and Detroit Tigers baseball teams. Fred could be frequently found in the stands cheering on his favorite teams. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather.
In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Ruth and Lucille Hakius; brother, John Hakius; and son, Frederick R. "Rick" Hakius, Jr. Fred is survived by his daughter, Nancy (Greg) Randolph; daughter-in-law, Jacalynn (Gust) Hakius; four grandchildren, Tricia (Mike) Seabolt, Carolyn (Brian) Hughes, Allyson (Ben) Wichner and Kyle Hakius; seven great-grandchildren, Carson, Travis, Chase and Preston Seabolt, and Shane, Blake and Aubrey Hughes.
Graveside Services for Fred were Private per his request. Newcomer – Northwest Chapel (419-473-0300) assisted the family for professional services.
