Fred Ellis Crabtree, born September 27, 1945 to Thomas and Virginia Crabtree died at his Springfield Township home on August 3, 2017.
Fred was a 1963 graduate of Libbey High School and graduated with an A.A.B. from The University of Toledo in 1990. Fred worked for the Prestolite Company for 5 years before entering the field of transportation. He worked for several trucking Companies throughout his career taking a short hiatus at selling cars. After being a victim of a traumatic crime in 1991 while showing a used car to a customer-turned-kidnapper, he returned to trucking and was semi-retired finishing up his career with Bathfitters.
Fred married the love of his life Pamela (Kwapich) in 1966 in St. Hyacinth's Catholic Church and together they lovingly raised 4 children in their Springfield Township home. Fred belonged to several clubs in his lifetime to include the Holland Springfield JC's, Toastmasters and the Toledo Transportation Club.
He enjoyed BBQ's and swimming with family and friends, especially his grandchildren and attended many Walleye and Mud Hens games. Fred was most happy and proud watching his son play softball at Pacesetter Park and his grandsons playing soccer, flag football and basketball. He was active in the YELL & TELL: STOP CHILD ABUSE NOW organization. Fred was a longtime member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Toledo.
Fred is survived by Pam and 4 children, Patrick (Carol), Amy (Bob) Gibson, Tod (Linda) and Eric, a brother Ralph (April) and the loves of his life Fred's 4 grandchildren, Zachary Gibson, Blake Gibson, Owen Crabtree and Summer Crabtree. He is also survived by his special in-laws, Judy and Norb Heban, Dale and Kathy Kwapich and Roger and Debbie Kwapich. Fred also has a host of nieces and nephews. Fred was preceded in death by his parents, his parents-in-law, Emelia and Walter Kwapich, and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Visitation will be on Monday, August 7, 2017 from 3:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd., Toledo (419-381-1900). Fred's Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 6149 Hill Ave., Toledo, OH 43615. Prayers will begin in the Funeral Home at 9:15 a.m.
