Frank Wescott

Frank Wescott, age 91, of Douglas, Wyoming, passed away March 4, 2019 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Toledo. Frank was born December 18, 1927 in Saginaw, Michigan to William and Anne (Pohlman) Wescott. An ardent patriot, he entered the United States Navy at the age of 17 and served his country proudly through to the end of WWII. His devotion to serving others didn't end there, as he continued to put the needs of others before himself throughout the rest of his life.
In 2011 those efforts were recognized by the state of Wyoming, as Frank was presented the Jefferson Award for volunteerism by Governor Matthew K. Mead of the state of Wyoming. Reading through the list of accomplishments during the ceremony, the Governor noted Frank's thousands of hours of community service. Mentioning just a few, he highlighted Frank's 19 years volunteering with the Douglas Police Department RSVP (retired senior volunteer patrol), delivering meals to shut-in seniors, Food Bank of Wyoming and the American Legion Post 8's Wyoming Boys State Program.
Frank will be remembered as a man of few words, always putting the wants and needs of others, before his own. He wasn't one to talk much about himself, but instead would spend countless hours listening to others. His family and friends came to realize that when Frank did speak, it was well thought out and came directly from the heart. He was an intelligent, earnest man, never letting anything go to waste. He found value in almost everything and reflected that in the way he lived his life. Growing up during the Great Depression, he developed a strong sense of survival. Frank was a preservationist in every aspect of his life, long before it became something popular to do.
An adventurist and outdoor enthusiast, Frank loved hiking, camping, hunting, fishing and our National Parks. His love for the Douglas, Wyoming area began back in 1965, when he took his first trip to the area on a big game hunting adventure. His romance with the Medicine Bow National Forest and Douglas, Wyoming area grew from there as he continued to hunt, fish and hike nearby for decades, until he finally decided to settle down there.
In addition to his parents, Frank was preceded in death by his stepmother Lois Wescott; sister Sally Schmieder and stepbrother Dewey McDuffey. He is survived by his son, Todd (Leslie) Wescott of Perrysburg, Ohio; daughter, Jody (John) Skeen and Shelley (Ron) Smith, both of Byron Center, Michigan; former wife but still good friend, Betty Wescott; grandchildren, Jacob, Frank, Lauren, Ian, Jamie and Chad; great-grandchildren, Josie, Grady, Charlie, Kolton, Noah, Kate, Lucy, and Jack; and sister, June Pickard of Florida.
Frank will be laid to rest in a family plot at Roselawn Cemetery in Saginaw, Michigan.
