Frank J. Szumigala

February 19, 1952 — July 9, 2021

Frank James Szumigala moved from this earthly place to rest for eternity in the Kingdom of Heaven surrounded by family and blanketed in love on Friday, July 9, 2021. To know Frank was to love Frank. Frank moved through his life driven by respect, fairness, compassion, and dedication to his family.

He was born on February 19, 1952, in Toledo, Ohio, to the late Frank and Rita (Zaborowski) Szumigala.

Frank wore many hats. A son, a brother, an uncle, and a friend. Frank's biggest and most lasting legacy was meeting and marrying the love of his life, Jane (Chapman), having two children, Alison Oprea (Alexa Fulmer), Greg (Katie Lemke), and a granddaughter, Hannah Oprea, who was his whole world.

Frank retired as a letter carrier from the USPS after 43 years of service. Frank had many hobbies. In his younger years, Frank was a fierce opponent on the racquetball court, was able to call his pitch, Babe Ruth style, pointing his bat over the fence at the softball diamond and crushing a homerun. Frank enjoyed fishing, golfing, jet skiing, photography, creating stained glass, and wood turning.

Frank was the type of person and friend that you wish you had more of in your life. Quick to offer help, share a story, and solve whatever crisis was at hand. Frank's quiet nature often made you forget how funny he was...but he would throw out zingers that would have you in stitches. Even as his strength was waning in the hospital and he was quiet and soft spoken...those classic Frank zingers would zip past the nurses creating smiles for all.

Frank is survived by his loving wife, Jane, daughter, Alison, son, Greg, granddaughter, Hannah, brother, David (Judy) Szumigala, sister, Julie (Jeff) Wilson, and father and mother-in-law, Frank and Evelyn Chapman. Frank was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Rita, and many friends. There is no doubt his best friend Bill pushed St. Peter out of the way being the first to greet him at the Pearly Gates, yelling "Hey Frank!," way louder than appropriate.

Don't weep because Frank is gone from this Earth. Be comforted knowing you shared a life with such a great man and will meet him again, sharing in his love and laughter for all eternity.
