Francisco Villagomez

Francisco Villagomez, 99, of Toledo, passed away December 22, 2022 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio. Francisco was born November 10, 1923 in Brawley, CA to Jesus and Jesus (Gonzalez) Villagomez.

In 1928 his family moved to Mexico and in 1948 at the young age of 25, Francisco moved back to the United States. He married his beloved wife, LaVonne, in 1949 in Helena, AR, after meeting her in August of that year. Fifteen years later, LaVonne converted to Catholisism and they renewed their vows in 1964 at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, the ceremony was performed by Father Richter. In 1951, Francisco and his bride moved to Indiana, then shortly after, made their way here to Toledo where Francisco worked as a heavy equipment operator for Conrail since 1952 until his retirement. In his free time, he enjoyed traveling, baseball, fishing, and boxing. He was a hard working man who cared deeply for his family.

Left to forever cherish his memory are his children, Nicademus, Robert (Maria), Thomas (Laura), Kathleen, Richard, Lola, Francisco (Eleanor), Teresa, Miguel (Tammy), Paul, Diane and Lucia Villagomez; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren;

Francisco was preceded in death by his parents; loving wife, LaVonne; and siblings, Juan, Jesse and Lucy.

The family will receive guests Tuesday, December 27, 2022 from 2:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - SW Chapel, 4752 Heatherdowns Blvd. (419-381-1900), with a Rosary being said in the funeral home at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will begin Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 434 Eastern Ave. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery, Toledo.

Memorial contributions may be made to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Francisco's memory.
