Frances D. Kelly, age 87, of Toledo, passed away Friday, July 21, 2006 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Toledo. She was born on May 28, 1919. Frances was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 2898, being a charter member and very active, serving in many offices and active with the junior girls. She did lots of work involving the Veteran's Hospitals, making and contributing items often. During World War II, Frances wrote hundreds of letters to numerous servicemen so they had someone at home to communicate with. She loved to watch friend's animals when they vacationed, especially her neighbors dog Peaches. Frances was an avid bowler, loved to crochet and she collected a variety of different kinds of salt and pepper shakers throughout her life.
In addition to her parents, Hallie and Gladys (Howe) Leavell, she was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Kelly. She is survived by her niece and caregiver: Kathleen Monroe; niece: Patricia (Ed) Masel; nephews: Carl and Merle Kelley; cousin: Earl Price; special friends and neighbors: Larry and Nancy Pawlaczyk; and many great and great great nieces and nephews.
The family will receive guests on Wednesday, July 26, 2006 in the Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd., Toledo (419-473-0300) from 2 – 8:00 p.m, with VFW Auxiliary Services beginning at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Services will take place on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home. Officiating will be Rev. Jerry S. Craig. Interment will follow in Ottawa Hills Memorial Park.
