Forrest E. "Ed" Fant, age 79, of Sylvania, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 23rd, 2011. He was surrounded by his loving family. Ed was born October 6th, 1931 to John and Annabelle Fant in Cropwell, Alabama. He retired from the U.S. Air Force after 27 years of service and then worked as a mail handler for the U.S. Postal Service for 30 years. He enjoyed golf, bowling, dancing and all sports, but most of all he enjoyed his great grandchildren.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Char; sons, Joseph "Joe" Oakes of Metamora, OH and Clinton "Russell" (GvangXia) Fant of Huntingburg, IN; daughter, Mary "Suzanne" Fant of Newburgh, IN; stepdaughter, Karen (Michael) Fischer of Temperance, MI; grandchildren, Tanya, Ted, J.J., Eric, Mandi, Heath, Grant, Russell and Nicole, along with 16 great grandchildren, whom he dearly loved. Ed is also survived by his sister-in-law, Violet Hunter of Covington, GA; brother-in-law, James Billings and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Hunter and sister, Mary (Hunter) Billings.
The family will receive guests Wednesday, July 27th, 2011 from 10-11:00 a.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300) with by a Memorial Service beginning at 11:00 a.m.
The family wishes to extend a special thanks for the care Ed received at Flower Hospital and the Promedica Hospice Center and to the many doctors that cared for him through the years.
