Floyd E. Swope, Sr., age 88, of Toledo, passed away peacefully on January 7, 2014 at the Toledo Hospital. He was born on December 25, 1925 to David and Elsie (Benden) Swope in Cresson, Pennsylvania. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII. He worked for the railroad in Pennsylvania and various companies in Toledo, later retiring from the Sisters of Notre Dame in 1989. He will be remembered by his family as a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, June Ann; children, Lola (Mel) Murray, Connie (Don) Rayman, Melvin (Helen) Swope, Tim Swope, Tom Swope; step-children, Charles (Barbara) Tull, Bonnie (Charlie) Berry and Dot (Jeffrey) Haverstock; sister, Josephine Nagle and many, many, many precious grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Emma (Yingling) Swope; sons, Dennis and Floyd, Jr.; step-daughter, Cynthia Letson; 7 brothers and 4 sisters.
The family will receive guests on Friday, January 10, 2014 from 3-8:00 p.m. Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300). Funeral Services will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 11, 2014 at Central Christian Church, 1660 Amesbury Rd., Toledo, OH 43612, with visitation one hour prior. Interment will follow in Restlawn Memorial Park.
