Ethel L. Stamper, age 71, passed into Jesus waiting arms on Monday, June 20, 2011 after a long illness. She was born on September 24, 1939 to William Willbur and Ethel (Ulmer) Eshliman in Toledo. Ethel attended Scott High School and later Stautzenberger College. She was an avid reader and believed books could take you anywhere and teach mostly anything.
Dolly as she was known to most, was the loving wife of Howard (Joe) Stamper; the beloved mother of Samuel J. Stamper and Frederick I. Stamper who preceded her in death along with her parents. Dolly loved being surrounded by her family and friends. She was happiest when they were all within earshot or sight. She was a devoted wife and mother. No one came before her children except God, Jesus and the Holy Ghost. Everyone told her she was the strongest woman they knew and she was always ready with a shoulder to lean on or a word of advice for anyone who needed her.
She loved to cook, bake and she really enjoyed gardening, fishing, watching football and baseball. Ethel loved playing euchre with friends and family. Her greatest fun in later years was casino gambling, where the slots were her favorite. She loved God and church, both were a big part of her life before she was unable to attend. Ethel was involved with the nursing home ministry under Pastor Dobson at the North End Church of God for a long time.
Surviving are her children, Kathryne (James) Stamper, Nina Stamper, Mary (Greg) Schrecongost and Steven (Rosa) Stamper; grandchildren; great-grandchildren and her canine companion, Roo Roo.
To those who knew her and loved her, she leaves behind her legacy of love, strength and faith. Her giving heart and beautiful spirit will not be forgotten.
The family will receive guests Wednesday from 2-8:00 p.m. and Thursday from 2-8:00 p.m. at North End Church of God, 2610 N. Erie St. The family will also receive guests Friday from 9-11:00 a.m. at the church. Funeral Services will follow at 11:00 a.m. in the church. Officiating will be Rev. Ray Dickens and Pastor Dennis Wick. Interment will take place in Forest Cemetery.
"Nobody Knows It But Me"
There's a place to travel when you want to roam,
And nobody knows it but me.
The roads don't go there,
and the signs stay home,
and nobody knows it but me.
It's far, far away and way, way afar.
It's our moon and the sea,
and where ever you're going,
thats where ever you are.
And nobody knows it but me.
